Former Aberdeen striker makes shock move to Cove Rangers
The 36-year-old has been without a club since leaving Eastleigh at the end of last season.
Cove Rangers manager Paul Hartley believes former Aberdeen striker Chris Maguire will bring valuable experience to his squad.
The 36-year-old has been without a club since leaving Eastleigh at the end of last season.
The twice-capped Scotland international scored 25 goals in 156 appearances for Aberdeen between 2005 and 2011.
He then went on to spend the majority of his career south of the border, playing for a string of clubs including Derby County, Sheffield Wednesday, Rotherham United and Sunderland.
Maguire made his debut for Cove as a substitute in Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Alloa Athletic at Balmoral Stadium.
The result moved Cove off the bottom of League One.
Cove Rangers boss Paul Hartley said: “He has got great experience.
“He has been in training with us for a wee while.
“We have been trying to get him up to speed.
“He hasn’t played a lot of football.
“He adds a bit of quality to the squad and experience to help the younger players.
“We are trying to get him into the game bit by bit.
“We need to introduce him 20 minutes at a time.
“We brought him on for the last 15 against Alloa and you could see his quality.
“He will be a good signing for us, we just need to get him up to speed a little bit more.
“It will be more minutes in the legs next week.”
