Caberfeidh boss Garry Reid was the happier of the two managers following his side’s goalless draw with Kinlochshiel in the Mowi Premiership.

He said: “Shiel had more of the play, but our defence played really well, with Connor MacGregor continuing his strong start to the season.

“Both teams were guilty of not working the goalkeeper; I think our Kevin Bartlett had a couple of saves and I can only remember their keeper Josh Grant making one save.

“Finlay Coleman played John MacRae well, Russell MacKenzie put his body on the line time after time, and Blair Morrison did lots of Blair-type things.

“I’m probably happy with the point.”

This fixture was reversed to Castle Leod as ‘Shiel’s Rèaraig field was unplayable, and their manager Willie MacRae said: “We had plenty of chances but just didn’t test their keeper enough.

“Our defence was strong; the centre line did well but we’re just not hitting the target enough.

“Conor Cormack had a great game at the back, Ollie MacRae occupied Blair Morrison well and their keeper Kevin Bartlett made a smart save from Kieran Martin near the end.”

Coyle on the mark

Fifteen-year-old James Coyle, younger brother of Ross County footballer Joe Coyle, scored twice in Newtonmore’s 8-1 triumph over Col Glen.

Coyle was given a start after scoring five times for the club’s second string the previous evening and he impressed manager Peter Ross who said: “James has a good touch and great movement and was unlucky not to get a hat-trick. We’ll give him time and won’t spoil him, but he’s given me food for thought.

“We were six players short and had four goals disallowed as well as hitting the frame of the goal on three occasions. That’s six wins from six league games so there’s a lot to be happy about.”

Captain Iain Robinson scored four times, one a penalty, for the league leaders whilst Matthew Sloss bagged the opener with a 25-yarder after just 3 minutes. Euan Dingwall got the other whilst Cally Mcnaughton was on target for Col Glen.

Kingussie climb to second place after beating Fort William 5-1.

Roddy Young and Calum McLay’s first goal for the club came before Alexander MacMillan replied midway through the first half. Dylan Borthwick, Ruaridh Anderson and another from Young clinched the win.

Lochaber won the centre and two tackles before Stuart Callison thumped the ball into the roof of the net against Oban Camanachd, but Connor Howe, Daniel Maccuish and Daniel MacVicar all netted before the break to give the Oban side a 3-1 win. Oban assistant manager Iain MacMillan said: “Losing the goal so early kicked us into gear and we played our best shinty of the season in the first half.”

The fixture between Skye Camanachd and Kyles Athletic was postponed following a Saturday morning pitch inspection.

Narrow win for Glen

Mowi National Division leaders Glenurquhart edged Glasgow Mid Argyll 2-1. All the goals came in the second half as the Glen led through Daniel MacLean’s penalty and Alfie MacLeod’s strike before Ruairidh Ralston scored against his former club.

Marc MacLachlan played a captain’s role as he netted twice, including an 86-minute winner, in second-placed Lovat’s 3-2 win over Inveraray. Graeme Macmillan got the opener with Fraser Watt bagging both Inveraray goals.

Beauly survived a second half Kilmallie onslaught to win 3-2 in a fixture reversed to Braeview Park. Shane O’Rua had Kilmallie ahead but Sean Stewart and Hector MacLennan turned the contest Beauly’s way. A second from Shane O’Rua levelled and although Kilmallie created several second half openings, Beauly veteran David MacLean grabbed the winner a couple of minutes from time.

Oban Celtic’s game with Bute fell to an unplayable field.

Skye Camanachd won through to the inaugural WCA Premier Cup semi-finals after beating Lochaber 2-0 at the Bught Park. Skye forfeited home advantage due to an unplayable Portree pitch but still won through with Caitlin Maclean and Sarah Yoxon scoring.
