Raids on homes amid e-scooter youth chaos in Aberdeen

Homes have been raided in Aberdeen amid a serious police crackdown on e-scooter-riding youths.

Startled shoppers have been faced with scooters being ridden through supermarkets, while police say the emergency exit door of a bus was wrenched open in a “dangerous” incident.

Officers revealed they had obtained footage of youths congregating and using e-scooters in an “anti-social manner”.

A number of youths, aged 12 and 13, have since been identified.

Their activities were deemed serious enough that officers executed search warrants at a number of homes.

Several illegal e-scooters are said to have been seized during the operations.

Bus emergency exit opened

Police say that on May 16 they obtained footage of a youth riding in the Langdykes Road area of Cove.

They were said to have been dangerously riding alongside a bus before opening the emergency exit door, and then riding off on the opposing carriageway.

A 12-year-old boy from Cove has since been charged with culpable and reckless conduct, together with various road traffic offences.

Their e-scooter was seized.

Police say youths had also been riding their e-scooters “recklessly” through the Sainsbury’s convenience store in Cove.

‘Extremely reckless and dangerous’

This was branded “extremely reckless and dangerous” as members of the public were doing their shopping at the time.

Following inquiries, a 12-year-old boy and two 13-year-old boys are said to have been identified.

Search warrants were obtained in respect of the children’s home addresses and three e-scooters were seized on June 1.

All three youths have been charged with culpable and reckless conduct and road traffic offences.

These include driving an unregistered vehicle without a licence and insurance.

Police said all four youths will be reported in connection with the offences.
