OCTOBER 1 — In “Sanctions imposed on FAM and seven heritage players: We need calm heads and strong shoulders”, I shared Fifa Disciplinary Committee (DC) official statement on the sanctions imposed on the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) and seven heritage players.

The DC has not only imposed the sanctions. It has also referred the matter of the seven heritage players’ eligibility to play for Malaysia to the Fifa Football Tribunal (FT) for consideration.

The FT’s functions are governed by the Procedural Rules Governing the Football Tribunal as issued by the Fifa Council. The FT has jurisdiction to make decisions as set out in the various Fifa regulations, including the Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players (RSTP) and the Regulations Governing the Application of the Fifa Statutes (RGAS).

According to a statement posted on FAM’s Facebook on Sunday (Sept 28), the FAM are “awaiting the full judgment from the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (Fifa) before filing an appeal in accordance with the existing legal process”.

I called for calm heads on strong shoulders for good reasons.

There is not just the appeal to the Fifa Appeal Committee but the eligibility of the players to play for Malaysia to be considered by the FT.
