Raja Muda Selangor Tengku Amir Shah weds Afzaa Fadini in private ceremony at Royal Palace Mosque

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 2 — The Raja Muda of Selangor, Tengku Amir Shah, and Afzaa Fadini Abdul Aziz were officially married in a Royal Wedding Ceremony at Istana Alam Shah here today.
Utusan Malaysia reported today that the private ceremony at the Royal Palace Mosque was officiated by the Selangor Mufti, Datuk Dr Anhar Opir, acting as the bride’s wali, in the presence of two witnesses: Tengku Panglima Raja Selangor, Tengku Ahmad Shah Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah, and Tengku Datuk Putra Tengku Azman Shah.
During the ceremony, Tengku Amir Shah presented a tray containing a ring as the mas kahwin (dowry) and a copy of the Quran to Afzaa Fadini.
According to a statement from Istana Alam Shah, as a symbolic gesture, 11 cannon salutes were fired by the 41st Royal Artillery Regiment (Ceremonial) based at Sungai Buloh Camp, marking the completion of the royal wedding ceremony at approximately 10.08am.
“The wedding ceremony was conducted in full order according to tradition and witnessed by the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, and the Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor, Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin.
“Also present at the private ceremony were members of the Selangor Royal Family, the bride’s family, and close friends from both sides,” the statement said.
Tengku Amir Shah, born on December 12, 1990 in California, United States, is the only child of Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah and Puan Nur Lisa Idris Abdullah.
He received his early education at Alice Smith School, Kuala Lumpur, before continuing his A-level studies at Wellington College, United Kingdom, and earning a Bachelor’s degree in Ecology and Environmental Biology from the University of Leeds.
At the age of 11, Tengku Amir Shah was proclaimed Raja Muda of Selangor on May 3, 2002.
His official enthronement and oath-taking as the 9th Raja Muda of Selangor took place in 2016 at Istana Alam Shah.
Afzaa Fadini was born on April 11, 1993 in Kuala Lumpur and is the third child and only daughter of Datuk Abdul Aziz and Datin Rosmawati Ismail.
She received her early education at Garden International School, Kuala Lumpur, before pursuing her A-levels at St George’s, Ascot, UK, and earning a Bachelor’s degree in Development and Economics from the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London.
She also completed a Master’s degree in Sustainable Cities at King’s College, London.
Professionally, Afzaa Fadini has worked in a combination of ecology, urban design, and community engagement across the non-profit and private sectors.
She is also an ISA-certified arborist.
She has been invited to share her insights on a global stage, including at the Malaysia Pavilion during UNFCCC COP28, where she highlighted the importance of nature-based, community-centred approaches to environmental challenges.
Earlier, the Royal Wedding Ceremony of the Raja Muda of Selangor began with a 650-metre royal procession from the Sultan Abdul Aziz Royal Gallery on Jalan Istana to the main gate of Istana Alam Shah.
The parade, witnessed by over 3,000 visitors, reached the main gate approximately 20 minutes after it began at 9am.
Following today’s wedding ceremony, the royal wedding reception will be held on October 22, at the Balairung Seri, Istana Alam Shah.
