‘Feisty’ badger trapped in football net at Aberdeenshire sports pitches
A specialist wildlife rescue team had to be called to the animal's aid.
A badger was the subject of a wildlife rescue after becoming trapped in a football net at school sports pitches.
It’s thought the animal may have been stuck in the net for a couple of days before its plight was noticed.
The New Arc Wildlife Rescue team were called to the male badgers aid at Monquhitter School in Cuminestown on Monday.
Badger still very ‘feisty’ during rescue
Despite his ordeal, the wildlife rescue centre said that he was still “very feisty” during his rescue.
Once safely restrained, they carefully cut away as much of the netting as possible.
The animal was then transferred to Glenythan Vet Group for sedation and removal of the remaining net.
He is now recovering well at the rescue centre in Ellon and continues to “make good progress”.
The wildlife centre gave a special thank you to Rosehall Pet Cemetery and The Neptune Bar for sponsoring their specialist badger transport cages.
It urged anyone using football nets to take them down when they are not in use.
