Following a high level summit in Cairo, Egypt, Algeria, and Tunisia launched a coordinated initiative to stabilize Libya politically. The three countries introduced a joint framework under the Tripartite Neighboring Countries Mechanism to address escalating instability and divisions. Consequently, the initiative reflects growing regional concern over renewed violence and persistent governance paralysis affecting Libya’s fragile political landscape.

The foreign ministers emphasized the urgent need for simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections to break the prolonged institutional deadlock decisively. They argued that unified elections would restore legitimacy and create a single authority capable of governing effectively across all Libyan territories. Therefore, the proposal aims to end the dual government situation that has deepened divisions and hindered national reconciliation efforts significantly.

Meanwhile, the trilateral declaration strongly rejected all forms of foreign interference in Libya’s internal affairs and political processes outright. The ministers stressed that external involvement continues to fuel instability and obstruct meaningful progress toward lasting peace and national unity. As a result, they called for a collective regional stance to safeguard Libya’s sovereignty and prevent further external manipulation.

A central component of the initiative includes full support for Libya’s 5+5 Joint Military Commission and its ongoing security coordination mandate. The three nations demanded a clear and binding timeline for the withdrawal of all foreign forces, fighters, and mercenaries present in Libya. This step, they argued, remains essential for unifying military institutions and establishing a stable security environment nationwide effectively.

In addition, Algeria offered to host the next follow up summit aimed at reinforcing coordination and advancing the proposed regional framework. This upcoming meeting is expected to focus on implementation mechanisms and ensuring sustained diplomatic engagement among participating countries involved. Ultimately, the trilateral push highlights a renewed effort by neighboring states to shape a unified path toward stability in Libya.
