A US Air Force aircraft was seen operating in the skies above RAF Lossiemouth on Thursday June 4.

The military plane was tracked in the area of the Moray base under the callsign MAVRK27.

The aircraft is understood to be a Boeing TC135W trainer, which is a training variant of a RC-135 reconnaissance aircraft.

It departed RAF Waddington in Lincolnshire at 10:47am, according to FlightRadar24 data.

It then flew more than 400 miles north to RAF Lossiemouth, where it was recorded “arriving” at around 12:41pm.

Flight tracking data shows the aircraft conducted several loops near the airfield before departing back south to England.

However, it is currently unclear whether the aircraft actually touched down at the Moray base.

The tracking data suggests the aircraft departed the area approximately one minute after arrival.

The aircraft arrived back at RAF Waddington shortly before 2pm.

RAF Lossiemouth: “We frequently host visits from our NATO allies on routine training flights”

RAF Lossiemouth was contacted for more information but declined to comment on the specific aircraft.

They said it does “not provide specific comment on visiting military aircraft from NATO allies”.

A spokesperson added: “RAF Lossiemouth does, however, frequently host visits from aircraft of our NATO allies on routine training flights.”

Additionally, the RAF website describes that the Moray base supports personnel and aircraft in operations “worldwide”.
