Aberdeen have announced goalkeeper Per Kristian Bratveit has departed the club.

The 30-year-old Norway cap was brought in by the Dons during the winter transfer window to provide competition to Dimitar Mitov after no.2 Nick Suman suffered an ankle injury in training.

While it was initially announced former Haugesund and Stromsgodset keeper Bratveit had signed a deal until the end of season 2026/27, it is understood there was a break clause in the contract this summer, which has been activated.

A Dons statement read: “The club can this afternoon confirm goalkeeper Per Kristian Bratveit has left Aberdeen FC.”

It added: “We wish him well in the future.”

During the second half of the campaign, Bratveit played in goal six times for Aberdeen.

Two of those appearances came under head coach Stephen Robinson following his March arrival, both against Robinson’s former club St Mirren – and both 2-0 defeats.

The latter game, the penultimate Premiership post-split fixture, was one Bulgaria national team goalie Mitov was unavailable for due to season-ending surgery.

Bratveit’s exit leaves 2025 Scottish Cup final hero Mitov – himself linked to an Aberdeen departure this summer – Australian understudy Suman (who made his debut on the final day of his first season for the Dons) and youth academy graduate Rodrigo Vitols as keeper options for Robinson.

Aberdeen’s squad revamp, following a season where they finished a disappointing ninth, is well under way ahead of the summer transfer window opening on Monday.

The Dons have already confirmed agreements to sign midfielders Brad Lyons and Alexander Briedl, and centre-backs Lewis Mayo and Dan Happe.
