LPG operations resume at Khor Mor
ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - Transport of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) from Khor Mor gas field to cities across the Kurdistan Region resumed on Saturday, three days after production was halted due to a drone attack.
The first group of eight tankers left the site on Saturday, Rudaw’s Arkan Ali reported from the scene.
“Today at 9 am, we were called to load LPG. Like on any normal day, we went there and loaded the gas,” said Yousif Nuri, a driver.
Maintenance teams are still working to repair damage to the storage facilities that were hit in the drone strike, Nuri added.
Khor Mor is the primary source of LPG and gas for electricity generation in the Kurdistan Region. About 80 percent of power production was disrupted due to the attack, according to Omed Ahmed, spokesperson for the Ministry of Electricity. There is no timeline for when power will be fully restored.
Located in the Chamchamal district of Sulaimani province, Khor Mor is operated by Pearl Petroleum, a consortium that includes UAE-based Dana Gas and Crescent Petroleum.
The Kurdish and Iraqi interior ministries are cooperating to investigate the attack and expect to have results within 72 hours. No group has claimed responsibility.
Kurdistan Region’s oil and gas infrastructure has been targeted dozens of times in recent years, attacks Kurdish officials have blamed on militia factions formally linked to Iraq’s security apparatus but operating outside government authority.
