Aberdeen sign Norwegian international goalkeeper on 18-month deal
The 29-year-old was a free agent after leaving Stromsgodset at the end of last year.
Aberdeen have completed the signing of Norwegian international goalkeeper Per Kristian Bråtveit.
The 29-year-old, who was a free agent after leaving Strømsgodset at the end of last year, has joined the Dons on an inital 18-month deal, subject to international clearance.
The Dons were looking for a new goalkeeper after back-up Nick Suman sustained an ankle injury in training which could keep the Aussie on the sidelines for a few months.
Aberdeen sporting director Lutz Pfannenstiel said: “When we learned the extent of Nick’s injury, we moved quickly to sign Per Kristian, whose contract with Strømsgodset had come to an end last month.
“He is an experienced goalkeeper, having played extensively across several strong leagues and clubs, and he also has senior international experience with Norway.
“He will provide real competition within the goalkeeping department as we continue to strengthen the squad.”
Bråtveit made 58 appearances for Norwegian side Stromsgodset, keeping 13 clean sheets.
The 6ft 2in shotstopper says he is looking forward to his new challenge in Scottish football.
He said: “It feels really good to be here.
“When Aberdeen made contact, it was an easy decision for me to make. I had finished my time in Norway, and I want to do something different, and Aberdeen is such a big club it felt like a great opportunity.
“I’m to get to know the league and Scottish football in general. I’ve played in a lot of countries which have given me a lot of experience, but I am excited to call Aberdeen home now.”
Bråtveit has made one appearance for his country, making his international debut for Norway in 2020 in a UEFA Nations League match against Austria, playing the full 90 minutes in a 1-1 draw.
Bråtveit began his career at Norwegian side Haugesund before moving to Swedish outfit Djurgardens, where he was part of the squad that won the 2019 Allsvenskan title.
He spent time on loan at French side Nimes and Dutch side Groningen before returning to Norway to sign for Valerenga in 2022.
After spells at Danish club AGF and Norwegian side Odd, he moved to Stromsgodset in 2024.
