Ross County sign Stranraer defender with ‘presence in both boxes’, according to Stuart Kettlewell

Manager Stuart Kettlewell backs Lewis Reid to flourish at Ross County after the defender signed from League Two side Stranraer.

The 21-year-old became the latest arrival at the Dingwall club, which is now in League One following back-to-back relegations. 

Reid, signed for an “undisclosed fee”, follows full-back Lewis Strapp, striker Brian Graham and winger Luke McCarvel as the Staggies’ signings so far since the season ended.

The centre half made a big impression in his 50 appearances last season for the Blues, having been initially on loan from Queen’s Park where he rose through the academy.

Reid was voted as the PFA Scotland League Two player of the year, recognition from his fellow players within the division of just how strong a season he had.

Reid spent 10 years in the Queen’s Park youth set-up, going on to make several appearances in the Championship and the League Cup.

County head coach Kettlewell is thrilled to have made Reid his fourth quickfire capture, and explained what he will bring to his squad.

He said: “Lewis is a really exciting prospect.

“After two standout campaigns with Stranraer, he has worked very hard and earned himself the chance to come and play in a league above.

“Winning the player of the year award shows just how highly rated he is, and he will do well if he can carry on that form.

“Having already made 80 appearances in senior football, he comes with a good background alongside his journey through the academy with Queen’s Park.

“Lewis will bring a defensive solidity and real presence in both boxes – he is one I’m looking forward to working with here at Ross County.”
