Highland League digest: Lossiemouth land Brodie Mitchell; Huntly and Deveronvale make players available

Lossiemouth co-manager Martin Charlesworth is thrilled to have secured one of their key summer transfer targets in Brodie Mitchell.

The 19-year-old, who can play at right-back, centre-back or in central midfield, has joined the Coasters on a four-year contract from fellow Breedon Highland League side Rothes.

Mitchell previously had a stint on loan at Lossie from Elgin during the 2023-24 season. He then signed for Rothes two years ago and has been a regular fixture for the Speysiders.

Charlesworth and Kevin Flett were appointed as joint-bosses at Lossie in February and when assessing how they would reshape their squad this summer Mitchell was identified as someone they wanted to recruit.

Charlesworth said: “Brodie fits the criteria we’re looking for as he’s a good player and he’s local to our training base.

“Brodie has proven himself in the Highland League and has made around 60 appearances for Rothes in the last two seasons.

“He’s also shown he can perform well in a number of positions at this level.

“Brodie can play right-back, sweeper or centre midfield, he’s very capable of playing in multiple positions.

“In recent years at Lossie there maybe haven’t been many signings where the players are established, proven Highland League players and Brodie very much is.

“He’s played a lot of games for Rothes and has been captain for a lot of games which speaks volumes about his leadership qualities.

“He’s only 19 so his best years are ahead of him. Brodie’s an exciting signing for us and he was someone that was near the top of our wish list when Kevin and I got the job.”

Optimism at Lossie

As well as Mitchell, Lossiemouth have already signed Baylee Campbell and secured a host of players on contract extensions.

Charlesworth believes the future is bright for the Grant Park outfit, who finished 17th in the Highland League this season.

He added: “One of the big positives for us was that once we got permission to speak to Brodie we didn’t need to sell the move to him.

“He was excited by it and was pushing to get it done and those are the type of people we want involved at Lossie.

“I think there’s a lot of excitement around the club at the moment.

“A lot of work is going on at Grant Park and the place is looking great.

“We’ve had people signing new deals, Baylee Campbell and Brodie Mitchell have jumped at the chance to join and fingers crossed there will be a couple more coming in to help us as well.”

Huntly and Deveronvale transfer list players

Huntly have made five players available for transfer and Deveronvale have put Keane Matheson up for sale, the Press and Journal understands.

The Black and Golds have notified other clubs that Brodie Allen, Ryan Sewell, Callum Murray, Greig McNaughton and Scott Logan are all available.

Striker Allen and midfielder Sewell arrived at Christie Park in January 2022 from Lossiemouth, midfielder Murray joined Huntly from Forres Mechanics in September 2022, defender McNaughton was recruited from Broughty Athletic in February 2025 and midfielder Logan was signed from Brechin City last summer.

However, they are now available to move to pastures new and all five are expected to attract interest.

Meanwhile, Vale have informed other teams that midfielder Matheson is on their transfer list.

He joined the Banffers from North of Scotland League neighbours Deveronside in the summer of 2024 and has been a regular at Princess Royal Park in the last two seasons.

However, it now appears Matheson is set for a move elsewhere.

Nairn dish out new deals

Nairn County have secured Adrian Voigt and Jonathan Bain on new contracts until the summer of 2028.

Voigt, 23, who has played at left-back and also in midfield, signed for the Wee County from North Caledonian League outfit St Duthus last summer.

Bain, who is 19, arrived at Station Park from Inverness Caledonian Thistle in the summer of 2024 and has had loan spells at Fort William and Rothes.

Nairn boss Wayne Mackintosh said: “It can take players time to adapt when they have never played at this level but Adrian was able to get a run in the team from the opening day of the season.

“We are now looking for more consistency from Adrian as he goes into his second season with us and hopefully having the security of a two-year deal will help him to achieve that.

“We know there is more to come from him and after a solid first season at the club we are looking forward to seeing Adrian develop further within the squad.”

Bain grabbed his chance

On Bain, Mackintosh added: “Jonathan came back into the team at the end of the season and never really put a foot wrong.

“He has had to be patient and wait for his chance to come along and probably did not play as much as he would have liked earlier in the season.

“He had been doing well in training and you could see the improvement in him and we just felt he needed a sustained run of games to take that next step.

“The opportunity came for him to get that out on loan at Rothes and we received great feedback for how he got on there.

“That then led to a chance for him to come back to us and straight into our team for the last few weeks of the season and he has grabbed it with both hands.

“I am really pleased for Jonathan and we are looking forward to seeing how he continues to progress.”
