Former Aberdeen FC winger begins new career in finance
Peter Pawlett made 212 appearances for the Dons.
Former Aberdeen FC winger Peter Pawlett is preparing for a new career off the pitch after joining a north-east financial services firm as a trainee adviser.
The 34-year-old, who spent 10 years playing for the Dons, has taken up a full-time role with Focus Financial and will take part in its adviser development programme.
The move follows a long-standing interest in property investment, which Peter says helped spark his interest in a career in financial services.
Peter, who currently plays for Peterhead FC, said he’s looking forward to a challenge in a new profession.
Packed football career
Pittodrie youth graduate Peter made 212 appearances for Aberdeen during his 10 years at the club, scoring 21 goals.
The Banchory-raised player left the Reds in 2017 to move to MK Dons, before joining Dundee United in January 2019, where he made 110 appearances.
He then signed a deal with Peterhead FC in January 2024, where he continues to play part-time.
Peter said: “Football has given me an incredible career and many valuable experiences, but I wanted to challenge myself in a new profession and build a long-term future outside the sport.
“I initially met Neil as a sponsor of my current team, Peterhead FC, and have always admired Focus Financial’s expertise.
“Neil has provided a fantastic opportunity to learn from experienced advisers and gain the qualifications needed to help people make important financial decisions.
“I’m looking forward to developing my knowledge, supporting clients and becoming part of a business that has strong ties to the local community.”
Disciplined and professional
Focus Financial believe Peter’s professionalism, dedication and commitment to excellence throughout his sporting career make him an ideal candidate to develop into a trusted financial adviser.
Neil Shelton, Focus Financial practice principal, said: “Throughout his football career, Peter has demonstrated the discipline, work ethic and professionalism that are essential qualities in our industry.
“Peter is highly respected within the local community, and we are excited to support him as he develops a long-term career in financial services.”
He added: “At a time when the financial services industry faces challenges in attracting young people into the profession, finding and developing the next generation of advisers is vital.
“Peter’s appointment demonstrates that valuable skills gained in other careers can translate into financial services, and we hope his journey will encourage others to consider the opportunities available in our industry.”
Focus Financial, which was founded in 2011, has offices in both Aberdeen and Peterhead.
