Donald Trump told his fellow world leaders “I’m the boss” as he strode in late to the morning session at the G7 summit in France.

The US president, buoyed by his peace deal with Iran and some overnight success in American elections, declared his status to the leaders of some of the world’s biggest economies as they met on the final day of the summit.

The comment elicited laughter from leaders, including Emmanuel Macron and Sir Keir Starmer.

After, Mr Trump said it had been a “very successful trip.”

Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, the Egyptian president, noted that at dinner last night, Mr Trump hardly had time to eat because he was surrounded by world leaders.

“There was a lot of work last night,” Mr Trump joked.

Asked about the deal with Iran, Mr Trump said: “They will never have a nuclear weapon. It is a very strong deal. Most people seem to be very happy. The strait is going to be opening up soon in full over the next day or two.

“If they don’t behave, we’ll go back to dropping bombs right smack in the middle of their head.”

Earlier the G7 leaders pledged to send more air defence systems and long-range weaponry to Ukraine.

Mr Trump is expected to host a press conference at 3pm BST.
