President Nechirvan Barzani supports stronger ties between Erbil and Baghdad governorates
17 June 2026: President Nechirvan Barzani received Atwan Al-Atwani, Governor of Baghdad, along with his accompanying delegation.
Their discussion focused on the importance of strengthening cooperation and coordination between Erbil and Baghdad, two of Iraq’s principal cities, particularly in the areas of services, development, and municipal affairs, with the aim of improving services for citizens.
President Nechirvan Barzani reaffirmed the Kurdistan Region’s support for strengthening cooperation and partnership between Erbil and Baghdad across various sectors. He also stressed the value of mutual learning from one another’s achievements to elevate the quality of services in both governorates.
The importance of continuing relations and cooperation to advance reconstruction and development in both cities was another topic of the meeting, which was also attended by Mr. Omed Khoshnaw, Governor of Erbil.
