Iraq forecast to stay hot but short of 50°C through end of July

The authority said temperatures would ease at varying rates over the coming days while staying hot to very hot. Northwesterly winds will continue across much of central and southern Iraq, picking up during the day before easing at night and raising light to moderate dust in exposed areas.

For Monday, the authority forecast sunny weather nationwide, with temperatures slightly lower than Sunday in central and southern Iraq and near previous levels in the north. Light to moderate northwesterly winds of 10 to 20 km/h are expected, becoming more active during the day in southern Iraq and eastern parts of the central region, where gusts could reach 50 km/h and cut visibility in blowing dust. Visibility is forecast at 8 to 10 km in most areas, falling to 5 to 7 km where dust develops.

Sunny conditions are expected to continue through Thursday, with temperatures rising slightly Tuesday, easing again Wednesday and climbing modestly in central Iraq on Friday. Northwesterly winds should persist throughout, with generally good visibility outside dusty areas.
