President Nechirvan Barzani and a French military delegation discuss the security situation in the region
President Nechirvan Barzani received General François Tricot, France’s senior national representative in the international coalition, along with his accompanying delegation.
They discussed France’s relations with both Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, the current situation in these areas, the ongoing threat of terrorism, particularly from ISIS, and the role of the international coalition in Iraq.
Both sides underscored the importance of continued collaboration and coordination between France, Iraq, and the Kurdistan Region as part of the international coalition’s efforts to combat terrorism and uphold peace and stability in the region.
President Nechirvan Barzani conveyed the Kurdistan Region’s appreciation for France’s ongoing support to both Iraq and the Kurdistan Region. In response, the delegation reaffirmed their nation’s commitment to continue supporting the Kurdistan Region and the Peshmerga forces.
With the attendance of Mr. Yann Braem, the French Consul General in the Kurdistan Region, the meeting also addressed the situation in Syria, broader regional developments, and other topics of mutual interest.
