Starmer’s press chief quits
Sir Keir Starmer’s director of communications has resigned, increasing pressure on the Prime Minister.
Tim Allan, who was brought into No 10 months ago, quit just a day after Morgan McSweeney departed as chief of staff.
Mr Allan said in a statement: “I have decided to stand down to allow a new No 10 team to be built. I wish the PM and his team every success.”
He was appointed Downing Street’s executive director of communications at the start of September under Sir Keir’s attempted “reset” at No 10.
As the former deputy press secretary under Sir Tony Blair’s New Labour, Mr Allan worked closely with Lord Mandelson.
His departure is the latest sign of the No 10 team rapidly crumbling around the Prime Minister and it will add to calls for Sir Keir to leave.
