Two Alfies to leave Aberdeen in the summer
The midfielder crashed home his sixth Inverness goal of the season - then confirmed that he will be leaving Aberdeen this summer.
The duo are playing starring roles for League One leaders Inverness this season, with Stewart’s cracking long-range strike having been cancelled out on Saturday by a late headed goal from Cove Rangers goalkeeper Balint Demus.
It means ICT are locked on 53 points with Stenhousemuir at the top of the division ahead of Tuesday night’s home fixture against Peterhead, who Stenny beat 1-0 on Saturday due to an 89th-minute Ross Taylor goal.
Last week, attacker Bavidge, who has scored 20 goals for the Highland side this season, said he doesn’t expect the arrival of Stephen Robinson as Aberdeen’s head coach last week to change the club’s decision not to offer him a new deal when it runs out at the end of this season.
Both Dons academy products, aged 19, have played their part in helping Scott Kellacher’s team chase down a double, with nine league games to go as well as a Challenge Cup final against Raith Rovers set for April 5.
Stewart expecting to leave Aberdeen
Stewart, whose searing long-ranger against Cove was his sixth of the term, said: “I was told a few weeks ago that Aberdeen will be letting me go in the summer and I’ve not heard anything more since.
“Obviously, the new manager has just gone in, but Alfie and I have been told we would be leaving and we’re not expecting that to change.
“Like Alfie said last week, we’re focused on doing our best this season for Inverness.
“There’s a lot to play for and hopefully we can have a positive end to the season.”
Kellacher looking for more goals
Billy Mckay and Jordan Alonge both had the ball in the net inside the opening six minutes against Cove but the offside flag denied them.
Stewart lashed home the opening goal on 39 minutes after being teed up by Paul Allan, but they failed to get a second goal, which Stewart believes would have ended Cove’s chances.
He said: “I was buzzing with the goal.
“The gaffer said to me on Friday I need to add more goals to my game. I just saw it on the half turn and hit it and it has gone into the corner of the net.
“It felt nice when I connected and I just saw it go into the goal, so I was happy with it.
“I want to score more and help the team as much as I can. We had a couple of goals ruled out for offside early on, which I wasn’t sure were offside.
“At home, we should be creating more chances. I thought if we got a second goal, that would have been the game done.
“As a team, we know that was nowhere near good enough. The game could have been put to bed in the first half, which if could have been had the goals not been ruled out for offsides.
“It’s happened a lot where we’ve not taken our chances this season. We’re leading 1-0 and maybe hanging on at the end. As a team, we need to try and get the second goal and that would be us.”
Plenty at stake for Peterhead clash
Tuesday’s home date with fifth-placed Peterhead is one Inverness will be looking to win before going to third-placed Alloa Athletic this weekend.
Stewart, whose goal against Cove extended ICT’s club record to 100th for the season, added: “It’s a massive game on Tuesday. We know what’s at stake after what happened on Saturday.
“We will regroup and go again to try and get three points.”
