Shinty roundup: Lochaber 2-2 Fort William; Mowi Premiership fixture ends 17-0 – as one player scores FIVE
Kingussie were rampant against understrength Kyles Athletic with four different players scoring three goals or more.
Five-goal Ruairidh Anderson helped Kingussie dismantle an understrength Kyles Athletic 17-0 in the Mowi Premiership.
Roddy Young added four goals, Dylan Borthwick and Savio Genini hit hat-tricks and Thomas Borthwick and Zander Michie got the others.
Kingussie boss Ronald Ross said: “We scored some fantastic goals and played some nice shinty throughout.
“Their keeper made some excellent saves, too.”
The Kings will be concerned after losing James Falconer in the opening minutes through injury.
Lochaber-Fort William derby spoils shared
Elseshere, Battling Lochaber came from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Fort William in their top-flight derby at Spean Bridge.
Hamish Shaw and Victor Smith gave the Fort a 2-0 interval lead, but Max Campbell, from a tight angle, and Ben Delaney’s late counter earned the home side a point.
Lochaber boss Ally Ferguson said: “It was end-to-end, and it’s fair to say we gave away two poor goals which gave Fort William a fair bit of momentum.
“We pressed more in the second half, creating more chances and we finished strongly with Iain Fyfe hitting the post in the dying minutes.
“I think if the game had gone on for another few minutes, we would have got the winner.
“Fort William saw the game out, though and, overall, a draw was probably a fair result – but credit our team spirit and all the lads for fighting back to gain a good point.”
The derby boiled over at times and Lochaber’s Max Campbell and Fort William’s Johnny Forster were both sent off.
Leaders stay perfect in Premiership
League leaders Newtonmore made it eight wins from their first eight games as they won 3-0 at Kinlochshiel.
Brodie MacBean shot into the corner of the net, past ‘Shiel stand-in keeper Jordan Fraser, in the opening minute, and Steven Macdonald blasted home two second half penalties.
‘More manager Peter Ross said: “We made a great start, and although ‘Shiel came more into it just before the break, we brought on Conor Jones and Michael Russell, and they were terrific in midfield.
“Struan Ross is leading the line so well at full forward and seems to be really enjoying the role.
“Michael Russell picked up a hand injury and we’re awaiting news on that.”
Oban Camanachd and Skye Camanachd played out a goalless draw at Mossfield.
Oban assistant manager Iain MacMillan said: “We had territorial advantage and a lot of pressure, but we weren’t clear-cut enough in front of goal.”
Stand-in Skye boss David Taylor said: “It was backs to the wall at times, but our keeper Ally MacDonald and defence of Ryan Harrision, Seonaidh Alex Macleod, James Morrison and William MacKinnon were immense.”
Skye’s Ruaraidh MacLeod was sent off following a second booking.
Two-goal Gavin McLauchlan and strikes from Ali Taylor and debutant Farquhar MacRae gave Caberfeidh a 4-0 win over Col Glen.
Caberfeidh manager Garry Reid said: “It was important to get back to winning after a couple of defeats.
“Col Glen are physical and athletic, and I think their full forward hit our post three times.
“Ali Taylor scored a good opening goal, then we scored two goals in quick succession which gave us a bit of a cushion.
“They certainly pushed us in the second half, but we defended well, and missed a few chances, before Gavin sealed victory.”
