Goalkeeper replacement plan following Per Kristian Bratveit exit revealed by boss Stephen Robinson
Aberdeen boss Stephen Robinson reveals summer transfer window goalkeeper plan following the exit of Norwegian international Per Kristian Bratveit.
Aberdeen boss Stephen Robinson has confirmed he has no plans to replace keeper Per Kristian Bratveit in the summer transfer window.
Norwegian international Bratveit left the club last month.
Robinson is rebuilding the Dons squad and has made eight signings in the summer transfer window to date but is not looking to secure a replacement for Bratveit.
The 30-year-old was signed in the January transfer window to provide competition to Dimitar Mitov after No.2 Nick Suman suffered an ankle injury in training.
Former Stromsgodset and Haugesund keeper Bratviet signed an 18-month deal until summer 2027.
However, there was a break clause in the contract for this summer, which was activated.
Bratveit started six games for Aberdeen, with two appearances under Robinson.
The Norwegian’s exit leaves Mitov, Australian Suman and youth academy graduate Rodrigo Vitols as keeper options for Robinson.
Mitov set to return after surgery
Mitov is battling back from groin surgery that ruled him out of the final games of last season.
Bulgarian international Mitov delayed the surgery for two months to help Aberdeen avoid a relegation play-off.
Mitov is set to return to full training in the ongoing warm-weather training camp in the Netherlands.
However, Mitov is expected to miss out on Saturday’s friendly against FC Twente.
With Mitov unavailable Suman and Vitols both played a half in the 1-0 pre-season friendly win against Cove Rangers on Saturday.
Robinson said: “At this moment in time, Nick will get his opportunity and work with Dimi as well.
“So, I’m happy with both of them.
“Dimi, statistically, is one of the best goalkeepers in the league.
“So, we’re really happy.
“If that changes then we’ll look at what else is out there and obviously the recruitment guys are doing that anyway.”
