New images reveal workers are ramping up their efforts to make Aberdeen’s derelict Woolmanhill Hospital easier on the eye.

Pictures show how weeds and overgrowth are now being removed from the site, as the owners continue to repair almost 10 years worth of degradation.

Last month, fresh boarding was put up across the majority of the hospital’s windows, with the council revealing that “positive” talks were under way with The Scotsman Group about the building’s future.

This has also included a recent assessment to determine the condition of the historic building, which will “inform ongoing discussions with the owner”.

What is happening with Woolmanhill Hospital?

The A-listed medical monolith has been abandoned for nearly a decade now since the NHS moved out, with plans for a hotel and housing failing to materialise after it was snapped up by a developer.

The idea of using the the 284-year-old building as housing for displaced Torry residents caught up in the Raac crisis was floated in recent years – but ultimately ruled out.

Hopes of transforming it into a street art museum have also faltered.

It remains unclear what the current owners The Scotsman Group have planned for the historic complex.

While it remains empty, concerns have been growing about it falling into a derelict state.

And now, fresh pictures have revealed that the owners are ramping up their efforts to spruce-up the derelict hospital.

Vans were seen parked in the courtyard, with weeds and shrubs being removed from the interior, with skips also delivered to the site.

Huge piles of shrubbery now surround the building, where these plants have been lopped.

However, there are still some areas where weeds sprout from the site and hang over the streets.

One van was sporting the logo of Muir Business Services – a security and facilities management firm.

It’s not clear what The Scotsman Group’s plans are for the building, but “positive” talks with the council are ongoing.
