On the second day of his visit to Baghdad, President Nechirvan Barzani met with Christian lawmakers from the Council of Representatives.

Their discussions focused on the situation of Christians and the political representation of communities. President Nechirvan Barzani highlighted that Christians are an indigenous people in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, emphasizing the importance of their historical and civilizational contributions.

He also underscored the importance of their involvement in the forthcoming cabinet of the Iraqi federal government as ministers, advocating for the promotion of a culture based on coexistence, tolerance, and mutual acceptance, which is a fundamental principle for stability in the country.

Both sides agreed that ongoing efforts to strengthen partnership and equality should continue, ensuring that all communities attain their constitutional rights and entitlements. In this regard, President Nechirvan Barzani reaffirmed the Kurdistan Region’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding the rights of Christians and ensuring they lead a dignified life.

In response, the Christian parliamentarians conveyed their gratitude for President Nechirvan Barzani’s steadfast commitment to safeguarding the rights of all communities and upholding pluralism and unity within the Kurdistan Region and Iraq.
