Formartine United boss Stuart Anderson hails latest signing
Formartine United have added defender Wallace Baird to their squad.
Formartine United manager Stuart Anderson is delighted to have bolstered his defensive options by signing Wallace Baird.
The 19-year-old, who is Angus-based, has joined the Pitmedden outfit after leaving Dundee.
Baird, who can play at right-back or centre-back, has previous Breedon Highland League experience, having been on loan at Brechin City and Deveronvale last season.
North Lodge Park boss Anderson is looking forward to working with Baird, and said: “Wallace is a really good young player and I’m delighted to sign him.
“He’s had two loan spells in the Highland League during his time with Dundee and he was keen to continue playing at this level.
“So we’re really pleased that he’s chosen to do that with us.
“Wallace has got good experience for his age, but he’s still young and has a lot of potential.”
Baird is Formartine’s second summer signing after they recruited fellow defender Matthew Cooper from Elgin City last month.
With Rhys Thomas and Aaron Norris sidelined with long-term injuries, Anderson was keen to strengthen that part of his squad.
He added: “Defensively we’ve been keen to add a couple of bodies because we’re a little bit light in that area.
“We’ve had to be patient this summer to try to get the right players, and we feel we’ve done that with Wallace and Matthew.
“Wallace will add a lot to our squad and we’re excited to see how he gets on.”
Brora deal in duo
Meanwhile, Brora Rangers have secured attackers Connor Bunce and James Wallace on contract extensions until the summer of 2029.
Bunce, 24, joined the Cattachs from Clachnacuddin in November 2024, while 25-year-old Wallace signed for the Dudgeon Park outfit permanently in the summer of 2021 having previously had a spell on loan from Ross County.
The pair have helped Brora win back-to-back Breedon Highland League titles and will be targeting more success after committing their futures to the Sutherland side.
