President Nechirvan Barzani meets with Director General of FAO

President Nechirvan Barzani welcomed a distinguished delegation from the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), led by its Director-General, Dr. QU Dongyu.
The meeting included the participation of Ms. Begard Talabani, the Minister of Agriculture and Water Resources, along with Mr. Saywan Barzani, the Iraqi Ambassador to Italy and the Iraqi Ambassador to the FAO. The meeting aimed to enhance collaborative efforts in agriculture, food security, and water resources. They also shared insights on the effects of climate change, desertification, water scarcity, and the challenges confronting agriculture, water, and food.
President Nechirvan Barzani expressed his gratitude to the FAO for its efforts in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, emphasizing its significant role in implementing development projects and ensuring food security.
Dr. QU Dongyu expressed the organization’s gratitude for the Kurdistan Region’s focus on the agricultural sector. He also reiterated FAO’s commitment to broadening collaboration and implementing strategic initiatives aligned with the objectives of sustainable development in the Kurdistan Region.
