Greig McNaughton on his move to Inverurie Locos; Keith transfer list Aaron Angus
Latest news in the Breedon Highland League.
New signing Greig McNaughton wants to help Inverurie Locos climb the Breedon Highland League table after making the move to Harlaw Park.
The defender has joined the Railwaymen on a two-year contract from Huntly.
Locos finished this season in 15th place, having been fourth at the end of the 2024-25 campaign.
But McNaughton believes things are looking up again for the Garioch side.
The 28-year-old said: “Since coming into the Highland League I’ve been aware that Inverurie are a big club in the Highland League with a good fanbase and good backing.
“I know they’re disappointed with how the season went, especially compared with a year ago when they finished fourth.
“But they’ve got a hunger and desire to push on again and I don’t think a club of Inverurie’s size should be down near the bottom of the table.
“When they showed an interest I was excited to become part of it and hopefully next season we can climb the table.”
Desire to remain in the north
McNaughton, who works as a development coach for Dundee, arrived in north football in February 2025 when he signed for Huntly from Broughty Athletic.
Last month he was made available for transfer by the Black and Golds, but was keen to remain in the Highland League.
McNaughton added: “There was interest in me from clubs closer to home, but I’ve been in the Highland League for 15 months and when I was available I played almost every game for Huntly.
“I thought I did well for Huntly and I was keen to stay in the Highland League. It’s a very competitive league with no easy games, I’ve really enjoyed playing in it and I’m looking forward to this new challenge with Inverurie.
“I’ll always have fond memories of Huntly. Colin Charlesworth was the manager who took me in which was probably a bit of a gamble because I was an unknown from the juniors in Dundee.
“But I’d like to think with how I played for the club that I repaid the gamble they took.
“The club was very welcoming from the chairman down and even the current manager Graeme Stewart has been great with me in the time I’ve spent with him.”
Angus made available
Meanwhile, Keith have placed Aaron Angus on the transfer list.
The midfielder joined the Maroons from North of Scotland Premier League outfit Hermes last summer on a three-year contract, but has been unable to establish himself as a regular at Kynoch Park.
As a result Angus, who has also spent time on loan at Sunnybank this season, has been made available for a move and Keith are open to offers.
