Former Aberdeen striker Lawrence Shankland on verge of Rangers move after contract clause revealed
Hearts captain on verge of quitting Tynecastle for a move to their league rivals at Ibrox.
Lawrence Shankland is on the verge of a shock move to his boyhood heroes Rangers.
The Hearts captain, who came through the ranks at Queen’s Park before moving to Aberdeen, has long been linked with Rangers after impressive showings at Ayr United, Dundee United and the Jambos.
The Scotland international striker put pen to paper on a new three-year deal to remain at Tynecastle last summer, but reportedly has a clause which allows him to rip up the deal after 12 months.
Shankland is preparing to exercise his contract clause after reportedly being offered a two-year deal to leave Hearts for the chance to join to Danny Rohl’s side.
The Daily Record has reported Rangers have offered Shankland a two-year deal with the option for a third year to leave the Scottish Premiership runners-up.
If the 30-year-old accepts the offer he will be able to leave Tynecastle on a free transfer.
Rangers are pushing to make the deal happen for Shankland, who scored 20 goals for Derek McInnes’ side this season, in the next 48 hours as they bid to conclude a deal before the cut-off clause expires.
Shankland is due to join up with Scotland this week ahead of Saturday’s Curacao friendly ahead of next month’s World Cup.
