Dylan Borthwick put the Kings ahead with a strike inside the near post from the right but Iain Robinson levelled five minutes before the break, finishing from the front of the D following a good ball from Struan Ross.

However, Kingussie regained the lead just a couple of minutes after when Roddy Young scored at the back post, turning home Ruaridh Anderson’s corner from the left.

In the second half, Thomas Borthwick’s low strike, following another Anderson corner from the left, made it 3-1 and a good run from the scorer, which culminated in Dylan Borthwick winning possession on the left before cutting inside and sending a great strike into the roof of the net, sealed victory.

Kingussie boss Ronald Ross said: “It was another very good team performance.

“We controlled large parts of the game, and we were clinical in front of goal when the opportunities came our way.”

Newtonmore keeper Kenny Ross added: “I don’t think we can take much from that game.

“We have to take it on the chin as we were well beat on the day.”

Skye stand between Kings and a place in the final

Kingussie will meet Skye Camanachd in the semi-finals after the Islanders defeated Fort William 4-0 in Portree.

Skye made a stunning start as Neil MacVicar’s drilled home Archie Millar’s free-hit after just two minutes and Millar ran into the D to double their lead moments after.

Millar got his second following Dan MacDonald’s corner just before the break and he completed his hat-trick seven minutes from time with a low strike from distance after good play from Martin Pringle and Ross Gordon.

Skye manager David Taylor had praise for forward Millar.

He said: “Archie’s really coming onto his game and the forwards are playing for each other.

“Fort William keeper Paul MacKay was good, but there were some shots the boys will feel they should have tucked away.

“Fort William definitely came more into it in the second half and played very well for a good half-hour, putting us on the back foot. It’s another win, another clean sheet and a semi-final to look forward to.”

The overall winning margin was harsh on Fort William who had their moments in the game, especially in the second half.

Boss Scott McNeil said: “Skye are a physical side, not at all in a dirty way, but they are big and strong, and we found that hard to cope with at times but we’ve learned a lot from this match.”

This was the first of three meetings between these sides over a four-week period.

Oban Camanachd romp to Glasgow Celtic Society Challenge Cup glory

Oban Camanachd reinforced their status as south shinty’s leading club with a comfortable 8-1 win over Glasgow Mid Argyll in the Scottish Sea Farms Glasgow Celtic Society Challenge Cup Final at Peterson Park.

GMA shocked their more fancied opponents when Ross Brown knocked the ball home after just four minutes when Calum Morrison won possession from a corner.

Man of the match Daniel MacVicar levelled soon after and by the final count, Lewis Cameron grabbed a hat-trick, Ross Campbell scored twice, as did MacVicar, with Andy Macdonald getting the other from near the halfway line.

It was a fourth successive triumph for the Oban side.

Manager Daniel Cameron said: “We made a worse start than Scotland, but the boys didn’t panic.

“They stuck to the game plan, getting the ball and moving it fast and the pitch suited us as there was a bit of length on the grass, so the ball was holding up.

“Hopefully this can kick-start things for us as we now come into the business end of the season.

“We really need to start cutting the gap against teams from the north as our recent performances against the big two sides haven’t been good enough.”
