More changes are on the cards in Inverurie town centre – with a retail rejig at Station Square continuing.

Earlier this year, it emerged that Superdrug had launched £250,000 plans to take over the Poundland unit in the town centre.

This would mean a relocation of just two doors along.

Poundland has not commented on the proposal which has left its future in the Garioch town in doubt.

And now fresh plans have revealed the new taker for the smaller shop which Superdrug will be leaving behind in the move.

Who is taking over from Superdrug in Inverurie town centre?

Building papers lodged with Aberdeenshire Council indicate that Card Factory has set its sights on the current Superdrug premises at 2A Station Square in Inverurie.

The firm plans to spend £35,000 on the Burn Lane site.

This will cover the costs of a “cosmetic refit”.

Earlier this year, Card Factory reported a 7.4% increase in revenue to more than £528m, which it said was partly through expanding its network of shops.

It has more than 1,000 across the UK, and is known as the nation’s “leading specialist retailer of greeting cards, gifts and celebration products”.

There are a few branches in Aberdeen but the only store in Aberdeenshire is in Westhill.

The new arrival comes just after clothing giant Next revealed proposals to take on a site in Inverurie a short distance away.

And in a further display of confidence in the Garioch community, it is one of the few select locations where Brewdog has reopened one of its closed bars.
