Nechirvan Barzani called the strikes unacceptable and a dangerous escalation, and said Baghdad must meet its constitutional responsibility to protect the country’s security and stop such attacks recurring. Safeguarding the sovereignty and stability of Iraq, including the Kurdistan Region, is a shared responsibility, he said, urging all sides toward de-escalation.

Prime Minister Masrour Barzani attributed the strikes to Iran directly, saying his office and the intelligence chief’s home were hit by Iranian drones in what he called a dangerous escalation and a direct threat to the Region’s security. Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani also blamed Iran, calling the attack a disregard for the Region’s declared neutrality on regional conflicts and a violation of Iraqi sovereignty.

The Kurdistan Democratic Party’s political bureau called on the federal government to treat the matter seriously and act quickly to prevent further violations. The Barzani Headquarters said the Region had not been a party to the wars around it and described the strikes as an attempt to destabilise it. The Kurdistan Justice Group also condemned the attack, with spokesperson Mohammed Hakim saying it continued to back a neutral Kurdish position on the region’s conflicts.

Two explosive Hadid-110 drones were launched from the Iranian side of the border at 12:28 a.m. in Pirmam district, the Kurdistan Region’s Counter-Terrorism Directorate said. No one was hurt. The Region has been hit repeatedly this year, with attacks on security sites, diplomatic facilities, civilian areas and camps housing Iranian Kurdish opposition groups.
