Leeds survive Birmingham test to win penalty shoot-out and reach FA Cup fifth round
Birmingham 1-1 Leeds
In the end, Leeds United took their place in the fifth round, but Birmingham made it far from easy for them.
After taking the Premier League side to extra-time, a penalty shoot-out was a step too far. Leeds were clinical and Birmingham missed two from the post – including Patrick Roberts whose last-minute equaliser gave Chris Davies’ side hope of a Cup upset.
Lukas Nmecha’s second half goal seemed to put Leeds in control. But owner Tom Wagner, watching the game from the USA while he recovers from a stroke, will have been proud of the way Birmingham fought back and refused to give in.
Birmingham will rue the missed chances – especially hitting the post in stoppage time – but they left the field with heads held high.
