President Nechirvan Barzani’s message on the occasion of the Babylonian-Assyrian New Year
01 April 26 - Akitu.
On the occasion of the Babylonian-Assyrian New Year 6776 and the Akitu festivities, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the Chaldeans, Assyrians, and Syriacs celebrating Akitu in Kurdistan, Iraq, and around the world. I wish them a joyful and peaceful holiday.
The Akitu celebration represents the rich historical and cultural heritage of one of our nation’s ancient and indigenous communities and serves as a reminder of our unwavering commitment to uphold equality, rights, and freedoms. The Kurdistan Region will continue to be a land of diversity and a hub for peaceful coexistence and tolerance among all religious and ethnic groups.
Although the celebrations will not take place due to the ongoing conflict in the region, I sincerely hope that this holiday brings peace and solace, fostering unity and shared life among all.
Wishing everyone a joyous Akitu and a happy new year.
Nechirvan Barzani
President of the Kurdistan Region
