Jordon Brown on Peterhead’s striker search after adding new face

Jordon Brown says Peterhead are looking outside the box in their hunt for strikers after recruiting Louis Jacobs.

The Blue Toon have handed a short-term deal to the 25-year-old, who was most recently with Welsh Premier League side Newtown AFC.

Jacobs’ formative football years were spent in Germany in the academies of Hamburg and St Pauli and he has featured as a substitute for Peterhead last weekend’s League One win over Queen of the South and Tuesday’s KDM Evolution Trophy victory against Banks o’ Dee.

With Mitch Megginson still recovering from injury and Niall McGinn leaving Balmoor last week to take up a coaching role with Derry City, Peterhead are keen to bolster their attacking options.

Co-manager Brown: “Louis is with us on a short-term deal, we’ll evaluate that and see where we go.

“He’s trained with us for a couple of weeks and there’s bit and pieces we’ve seen, but it’s hard until you see someone in games.

“We’re trying to find that missing piece in terms of a striker and sometimes you have to look outside the box.”

Praise for Mackie

One striker who is pushing for further involvement with Peterhead is Fraser Mackie.

The 19-year-old former Aberdeen youth, who spent part of last season on loan to Fraserburgh, started and scored against Banks o’ Dee.

Mackie has also featured as a substitute in the Blue Toon’s four Premier Sports League Cup group matches and their League One opener against Ross County.

Brown added: “I was over the moon for Fraser getting a goal against Banks o’ Dee.

“He was frustrated that we didn’t use him at Queen of the South on Saturday and we held our hands up because we probably should have used him.

“But we’ve had some good chats with him in the last few days and it was excellent for him to get a goal.

“We’ve got trust and belief in him and it’s just about him getting the right game time, but right now he’s knocking on the door.”
